»Die CDs basieren auf einer Rundfunkaufnahme aus dem Jahr 1968. Bislang mit viel Glück antiquarisch nur als zumeist kostspielige LPs erhältlich, ist diese zwischen Romantik und expressiver Kante, zugespitzter Komik und ironischer Verschmitztheit changierende Aufnahme ein Glücksfall. Ein typologisch exzellent zusammengestelltes Ensemble rund um den üppigen Bass von A. Korolyov als Zar Dodon in der Hauptrolle sorgt für alle Drastik des akustischen Geschehens, ohne je karikatural zu wirken. Ob die Sopranistin K. Kadinskaja als Schemakha, N.Polyakova als Goldener Hahn, G.
