Gramophone« feierte die Kanadierin Angela Hewitt erst jüngst unter dem Titel »World's piano cult figure«, gleichzeitig arbeitet die Pianistin mit ihren letzten Veröffentlichungen zu Couperin, Rameau und Beethoven äußerst erfolgreich daran, sich vom Image der reinen Bachexpertin zu befreien. Die erste Folge ihrer Einspielung der Beethoven-Klaviersonaten konnte die Kritiker voll überzeugen: Sie rühmten ihre »Klarheit, Intelligenz und Eleganz«, ihre »Objektivität und Notengenauigkeit«. Diesem Interpretationsansatz folgt Angela Hewitt auf überzeugende Weise auch in der vorliegenden zweiten Folge, auf der u. a. die bezaubernde »Pastorale« op. 28 und die monumentale »Pathétique« op. 13 zu hören sind.
