Nach dem Gewinn des renommierten Reine Elisabeth Violinwettbewerbs in Brüssel 1959, machte Jaime Laredo viel Kammermusik, auch an der Bratsche, u. a. mit Rudolf Serkin bei dessen Marlboro Festival, später dann mit Isaac Stern, Yo-Yo Ma und Emanuel Ax. Zu Jaime Laredos 80. Geburtstag am 7. Juni 2021 erscheinen erstmals auf 23 CDs seine kompletten Aufnahmen für RCA, Columbia und Sony Classical. Dazu gehören, neben den legendären Bach-Sonaten mit Glenn Gould, u. a. Konzerte von Mozart, Mendelssohn, Bruch und dem Tripelkonzert von Beethoven, vor allem aber maßstabsetzende Einspielungen der Klavierquartette von Mozart, Brahms, Fauré und Schumann, von Schuberts Forellenquintett und Mendelssohns Oktett.
Of the many great musicians I have had the honor to work with, Jaime Laredo is perhaps the kindest and gentlest. In the 50 years that I have known him – as teacher, conductor, chamber music colleague, and friend – I have never heard him utter an unkind word. Jaime is not only an exceptional violinist and violist, he is also a wonderful teacher with a great intuitive ability to spot and nurture talent, supporting and encouraging young musicians to want to do their best. He is ageless and surprising, and he has become a repository of generations of musical memories.
