Die Aufnahmen fanden in den legendären Abbey Road Studios in London statt. Am Mischpult saß Norman Smith, der auch als Tontechniker für die Beatles arbeitete. »The Piper At The Gates Of Dawn« ist das einzige Album, das sie noch ohne ihren späteren Frontmann David Gilmour aufnahmen. Stattdessen führte Bandgründer Syd Barrett die musikalische Regie beim Songwriting und den Aufnahmen.
