Zusammen mit den Sex Pistols waren The Clash in England die Punk-Rocker der ersten Stunde. Anders als die Sex Pistols mischten Sie aber ihren Sound mit Reggae- und Discoklängen. Das Bandleader-Duo Joe Strummer und Mick Jones komponierte die meisten Hits der Formation. Das dritte Album „London Calling“ erschien 1979 als Doppel-LP und beeindruckte durch sein breites musikalisches Spektrum, das von Pop über Reggae bis zum Punk reichte. Besonders beeindruckend der Titelsong, der zu den Keytracks einer ganzen Musikepoche zählt.
