»Graceland« von 1986 war das siebte Studioalbum des Singer/Songwriters PAUL SIMON. 1984, nach einer depressive Phase, war SIMON fasziniert von einer Bootleg-Kassette mit Musik aus einem südafrikanischen Township. Mit Roy Halee plante er eine Reise nach Johannesburg, wo er zwei Wochen lang mit südafrikanischen Musikern aufnahm.
Das Album verfügt somit über einen eklektischen Genre-Mix, darunter Pop, Rock, A Capella, Zydeco, Isicathamiya und Mbaqnaga. SIMON komponiert unter dem Eindruck dieser Aufnahmen neue Songs und kollaborierte mit afrikanischen und amerikanischen Musikern.
»Graceland« war ein kommerzieller Erfolg und sollte das erfolgreichste Studioalbum SIMONs werden. 1987 gewann es den Grammy als »Album Of The Year« und verkaufte sich weltweit über 16 Millionen Mal.
Vor gut 25 Jahren erschien Paul Simons Grammy Album Graceland, das bis heute Fans und Musiker auf der ganzen Welt beeinflusst und inspiriert und sich über 14 Mio mal verkaufte. Graceland bescherte Simon drei Hitsingles, darunter "You Can Call Me Al" mit dem Kultvideo, in dem Komiker Chevy Chase auftritt. Die anschließende Graceland-Tour dauerte volle fünf Jahre.
