Überall geht es um Intrigen, politische Ränkespiele und ihre Spuren in den Seelen der beteiligten Akteure, die dann mit größter emotionaler Kraft den Wunsch nach Frieden zum Ausdruck bringen. Die amerikanische Mezzosopranistin Joyce DiDonato machte den Kontrast zwischen kriegerischem Chaos und der Harmonie der Musik schon 2016 zum Thema eines preisgekrönten Albums. Im Jahr darauf gastierte sie mit dem Programm im Liceu Theater in Barcelona – inmitten eines Bühnen-Farbenrauschs und begleitet nicht nur vom Ensemble Il pomo d'oro, sondern auch vom Tänzer Manuel Palazzo. Jetzt erscheint der Live-Mitschnitt auf DVD & Blu-ray. »Wenn wir mitten im Chaos stehen – wie können wir Frieden finden? « Die Mezzosopranistin Joyce DiDonato stellte diese Frage im Kommentar zum Album – und dass sie sie mit Werken von barocken Opernkomponisten zu beantworten versucht, zeigt, wie aktuell diese oft jahrhundertealten Kompositionen sind. Schon das Album errang einen Gramophone Award, eine Grammy-Nominierung und ebnete DiDonato den Weg zum Echo-Klassik als Künstlerin des Jahres 2017. Auf der DVD kombiniert die Sängerin zusammen mit dem Ensemble Il pomo d'oro barocke Arien mit dem zeitgenössischen Werk Da pacem, Domine von Arvo Pärt, das sich inmitten der »Alten Musik« wie ein modernes Echo ausnimmt. Den Abschluss bildet das von spiritueller Kraft geprägte Lied Morgen von Richard Strauss.
