Eine einzigartige Aufnahme von Elgars Falstaff, gespielt vom BBC National Orchestra of Wales unter Andrew Constantine in zwei Versionen: mit und ohne Ausschnitte aus Shakespeares Heinrich IV., Teil I und II, aufgeführt von Timothy West und Samuel West.

Neben Elgars großartiger Antwort auf Shakespeares liebenswerten Schurken hören wir Tam O’Shanter des amerikanischen Komponisten George Whitefield Chadwick, eine Interpretation des Gedichts des schottischen Nationaldichters Robert Burns, mit Erik Chapman als Chadwick und Billy Wiz als Burns.

Sowohl Falstaff als auch Tam O’Shanter sind zwielichtige, überlebensgroße Charaktere, die Chadwick zu einer Partitur voller Farbe und Humor inspirierten, und Elgar zu einem Porträt von Shakespeares Ausmaß und Tiefe.

Elgars Werk ist hier in einer außergewöhnlichen Aufführung des BBC National Orchestra of Wales zu hören, in einer Version, durchsetzt mit Lesungen von Timothy West als Falstaff und Samuel West als Prinz Hal.
