»The Great Yellow Light« von Willie Nile ist das 21. Album des in New York lebenden Rockveteranen, den der New Yorker als »einen der brillantesten Singer-Songwriter der letzten dreißig Jahre« bezeichnet hat.
Der Albumtitel ist eine Anspielung auf die Briefe von Vincent Van Gogh an seinen Bruder Theo und das Licht, das ihn in Arles, Frankreich, wo er von Februar 1888 bis Mai 1889 lebte, inspirierte.
Das Album wurde im Hobo Sound in Weehawken, NJ, aufgenommen und von Nile und seinem langjährigen Produzenten, dem Grammy-Preisträger Stewart Lerman (Elvis Costello, Patti Smith, Sharon Van Etten, etc.), produziert. Mit dabei: Steve Earle, Paul Brady, Waddy Wachtel, David Mansfield und Mitglieder von Black 47 und The Hooters.
