Nach dem Ausstieg von Tanya Donelly, der Auflösung von The Pixies und der Rückkehr von Kelley Deal in die Herde, gelang The Breeders mit ihrem zweiten Album und den Hitsingles »Cannonball«, »Divine Hammer« und »Saints«. Das letzte Breeders-Album der 1990er Jahre, als Kelley unter Drogensucht litt und sich davon erholte und Kim ein neues Ventil in The Amps fand, wurde Last Splash mit Platin ausgezeichnet und beförderte Kim Deals großes Songschreiber-Talent aus dem Schatten von Black Francis.
