Level 42 wurde Ende der 70er-Jahre gegründet und begann als Jazz-Fusion-Band, bevor sie sich dem Dance-Rock zuwandte, für den sie am bekanntesten werden.
Die erste Single der Band, „Love Meeting Love“, erschien 1980 und wurde von der Kritik hochgelobt. Dies führte zum Debütalbum „Level 42“, das den Bandnamen trug und in die Top 20 der Charts einstieg.
Während der 80er-Jahre veröffentlichte die Band zahlreiche Alben und tourte regelmäßig, wodurch sie eine große und treue Fangemeinde aufbaute.
