King Curtis war ein amerikanischer Saxophonist und Bandleader, der Rhythm and Blues, Soul, Rock and Roll und Soul Jazz spielte. Er spielte Riffs und Soli auf Hit-Singles wie "Respect" von Aretha Franklin (1967) und "Yakety Yak" von The Coasters (1958) sowie seine eigenen Titel "Soul Twist" (1962), "Soul Serenade" (1964) und "Memphis Soul Stew" (1967).
Seine Bedeutung als Musiker und Produzent wird hier durch seine Mitstreiter unterstrichen: Cornell Dupree, Eddie Hinton und The Swampers; Eric Clapton und Delaney Bramlett bei "Teasin'"; Jimmy Smith bei "Soulin'"; und andere. Das Album "Get Ready" ist ein schöner instrumentaler Rhythm & Blues, der immer noch im Sound der 60er Jahre verwurzelt ist und 10 Titel enthält.
