Trading Places präsentiert eine Wiederveröffentlichung von Don Covay And The Jefferson Lemon Blues Band's Different Strokes For Different Folks, das ursprünglich 1972 veröffentlicht wurde. Während seiner langen und fruchtbaren Karriere nahm der vielseitige Singer-Songwriter Don Covay eine Vielzahl von Stilen auf, darunter Gospel, Doo-Wop, Soul, Rock und Blues, und seine beneidenswerten Fähigkeiten als Songwriter waren unter anderem für Chubby Checker's "Pony Time" sowie Aretha Franklin's "See Saw" und "Chain Of Fools" verantwortlich.
Nach seinem Weggang von Atlantic wurde Different Strokes For Different Folks für das kleine Janus-Label im angesehenen Swampers-Hauptquartier in Muscle Shoals, Alabama, aufgenommen. Der daraus resultierende Groove ist eine unwiderstehliche Mischung aus Funk, Soul, Gospel und Rock, in die viel von Covays eigenem Humor einfließt.
