Commander Cody hatte bereits mit seiner Band, den »Lost Planet Airmen« Kultstatus erlangt, als er 1980 in den Rockpalast eingeladen wurde. Seine Musik bewegte sich in seiner ganz eigenen humorvollen Art zwischen Blues, Countryrock, Boogie, Rockabilly und Texmex.
Das Publikum wurde Zeuge eines bunten, energiegeladenen Konzertabends im WDR Studio A in Köln. In bewährter Manier rockte der Commander durch seine Setlist, immer mit einem herzlichen Augenzwinkern.
Begleitet wurde der Commander an diesem Abend von Steve Mackay (saxophone, vocals), Tona Johnson (drums, vocals), Bill Kirchen (guitar, vocals), Doug Killmer (bass, vocals) und Peter Siegel (pedal steel guitar, guitar).
