Diejenigen, die China Crisis kannten und verfolgten, zuckten nicht mit der Wimper, als bekannt wurde, dass Walter Becker von Steely Dan das dritte Album der experimentellen Popgruppe aus Liverpool produzieren würde. Gary Daly und Eddie Lundons hauchdünne Modernität und melodische Akzente stammen oft direkt aus dem Steely-Dan-Drehbuch, wobei sie im besten Fall nicht nachahmen oder abkupfern, sondern nur subtil Elemente ihres Einflusses übernehmen, indem sie Rhythmen, Wiederholungen und Melodien zu einer subtilen Klangpalette zusammenfügen.
