Wenig ist bekannt über Mabel Louise Smith alias Big Maybelle, wie so
viele andere Pioniere des R&B wurde sie während ihres Lebens niemals
interviewt und verstarb 1972, gerade als die Historiker der Popkultur
anfingen sich für die Architekten des R&Bs zu interessieren. Zwei seltene
Live Radio Ausstrahlungen zusammen mit ihren Original LPs für die
Savoy und Cub Labels werden hier zum ersten Mals zusammen präsentiert.
Auch enthalten ist ihre einzige Weihnachtssingle sowie alles von ihrer
legendärem Performance beim Newport Jazz Festival 1958.
