Als Lonnie Donegans hektisches "Rock Island Line" im Januar 1956 in die Top 20 einstieg, wich das "Establishment" in kollektivem Entsetzen aus. Die britische Musikindustrie wurde bis ins Innerste erschüttert - "Skiffle Is Piffle" quiekte eine Melody Maker-Headline - während der Nation Eltern / Erziehungsberechtigten / MPs / Geistliche / Lehrer / Scoutmasters etc. vollkommen bestürzt davon überzeugt waren, dass die Welt im Begriff war von Messer schwingenden Teddy Boys überrannt zu werden. Die britischen Teenager wiederum liebten den 'Skiffle' mit fast unanständiger Begeisterung. Die Euphorie ging so weit, dass innerhalb weniger Wochen praktisch jeder Verein, jede Halle und jede Kaffeebar im Land eine eigene Skiffle-Gruppe präsentierte.
