Vielleicht war Tom T. Hall der bahnbrechendste Songwriter in der Geschichte der Country Music. Er brachte den erzählerischen Schwung der Folkmusic in die Country Music ein. In den Siebzigerjahren nannte man ihn auch den ''Singenden Geschichtenerzähler'. Selbst als seine eigene, nahezu unglaubliche Hitserie nach über 50 Hits in gut 20 Jahren endete, schrieb er weiterhin Songs für z. B. Alan Jackson. Im Allgemeinen gelten seine frühen LPs als seine besten; konsequenterweise haben wir alle Aufnahmen der ersten vier Langspielplatten auf diesen beiden CDs zusammengefasst.
