Linda war die Leadsängerin der britischen Jazz-Fusion-Band Affinity und das hier von den Fans als vergessenes Meisterwerk angesehenes Solo-Album „Pieces Of Me“ war ihr einziges Album.
Die ehemalige Englischlehrerin verließ 1971 Affinity, da sie dem Musikbusiness müde wurde und dennoch erhielt sie sich aufgrund ihrer tollen Stimme ihre Karriere als Sängerin und begann mit dem Keyboarder Karl Jenkins, der später zu Soft Machine ging, Songs zu schreiben.
Dadurch entstand genügend Song-Material für ihr Album „Pieces Of Me“, auf dem sie alle Facetten ihres Gesangs- und Kompositionsstils eindrucksvoll präsentierte. Ihre Stimme wurde mit Grace Slick und Julie Driscoll verglichen, ihre musikalischen Wurzeln liegen aber eher im Jazz als in der Rockmusik.
Das Songmaterial reicht von schnellen und hektischen Rocktiteln wie „Black Crow“ bis hin zur subtilen und wunderschön gesungenen Ballade ‘Ballad Of Marty Mole’, einer von Linda’s Lieblingssongs ihres Albums.
Das Album wurde erstmalig 1971 auf dem Vertigo-Label veröffentlicht und hat es angesichts seiner musikalisch hochwertigen Qualität und der brillanten Stimme der Künstlerin verdient wieder entdeckt zu werden.

Linda was the lead singer with UK jazz fusion group Affinity and this was her only solo album, now regarded as a forgotten masterpiece by fans around the world. A former English teacher, she quit Affinity in 1971, proclaiming she was tired of the music business. Nevertheless, she had one final shot at her vocal career and set about writing songs with the keyboard player Karl Jenkins, who later joined Soft Machine. The result was sufficient material for ‘Pieces Of Me’, in which all facets of her vocal and composing style are effectively showcased. He voice has been compared to both Grace Slick and Julie Driscoll, but her roots are more in jazz than rock. The songs range from the fast and frantic rock of ‘Black Crow’, to the subtle and beautifully sung ‘Ballad Of Marty Mole’, long a favourite among Linda Hoyle aficionados. Originally released on the Vertigo label in 1971 this CD deserves to be rediscovered by all those who savour quality music from a seriously good artist.
