1987 in New York gegründet zählten Galaxie 500 zu den einflussreichsten Indie-Pop-Bands der späten 1980er-Jahre. Das Trio um Gitarrist Dean Wareham, Schlagzeuger Damon Krukowski und der Bassistin Naomi Yang benannte sich nach dem Ford Galaxie 500, einem Auto, das wie die Musik des Trios für zeitlose Eleganz, Stil und ein klein wenig R&R-Nostalgie steht. Nach nur drei Alben löste sich die Band 1991 auf, um danach in verschiedenen Projekten weiterzuspielen.
