Begleitet vom Ralph Sharon Trio trat Bennett in der Fernsehsendung „MTV Unplugged“ auf, um das „Great American Songbook“ zu präsentieren, wobei Elvis Costello und k.d. lang als Gastmusiker mitwirkten.
Das Album erreichte in den Vereinigten Staaten Platin-Status und wurde 1995 mit zwei Grammy Awards in den Kategorien „Best Traditional Pop Vocal Performance“ und „Album of the Year“ ausgezeichnet.
