The 2nd edition of the LISTEN HERE series, compiled by journalist MICHAEL MÖHRING, is dealing with Miles Davis’ landmark recording Bitches Brew, an album with a high profile which stands the test of time. Out of that stylistic revolution not only the fusion genre were born with groups like Weather Report, the Headhunters, Return To Forever, and the Mahavishnu Orchestra, it also has set standards in the electronica (jazz) evolution for the following decades. This project is about the ‘post Miles electric jazz’ featuring outstanding trumpeters like Nils Petter Molvaer, Tim Hagans, Russell Gunn, Erik Truffaz, and others who carry on and keep the flame. Compiler Möhring on LISTEN HERE, Vol. 2: “There is no doubt that all the artists on this compilation - RUN THE VOODOO DOWN - are deeply influenced by Bitches Brew and its following 70’s masterpieces Live Evil, Jack Johnson, or On The Corner. Besides the tracks I’ve picked up for this selection, there is more interesting material in the vaults to produce probably a second volume. Innovators like Mark Isham, Palle Mikkelborg, Wadada Leo Smith or Toshinori Kondo are just some of them, which comes to my mind. They all did great stuff in that style, creating ‘a new brew’.“
