On his Verve Records debut release, Quiet, John Scofield accomplished two major firsts for himself as he plays only nylon-string acoustic guitar, and is accompanied by a horn ensemble whose arrangements came from Scofield's pen, including three tunes written especially for saxophone soloist Wayne Shorter.
Unlike the horns on most records that are overdubbed after the album is recorded, Scofield wrote the music with the horns and guitar as equal partners. QUIET was recorded live in studio with the ensemble to bring out the intricately interwoven relationship between the instruments. .
