Herb Ellis: Four Classic Albums (Nothing But The Blues - Herb Ellis Meets Jimmy Giuffre / Ellis In Wonderland / Thank You, Charlie Christian)
AVID Jazz here presents four classic Herb Ellis albums including original LP liner notes on a finely re-mastered and low priced double CD.
It all started with the Blues and eventually it all goes back to the Blues. Herb Ellis, Roy Eldridge, Stan Getz, Ray Brown, Stan Levey………..”Nothing But The Blues”. A fresh start for Herb for our second album, “Herb Ellis Meets Jimmy Guiffre” Having recently left Oscar Peterson’s trio, Herb once again teamed up with old college buddy Jimmy Giuffre who had himself just recently been hit by the force that was Thelonious Monk, John Coltrane and most significantly Sonny Rollins! Stepping back three years we have the first meeting between Herb and Giuffre, “Ellis In Wonderland” where Herb is also joined by his boss Oscar Peterson and trio bassist Ray Brown. Some more unusual names turn up with Herb for the 1960 date “Thank You Charlie Christian” where Herb takes on all the composing duties himself. The album features an unusual instrument for the jazz fan, the cello as played by Harry Babasin.
All four albums have been digitally re-mastered for probably the finest ever sound quality!
