»Vincenzo Bellinis Oper ›Norma‹ (uraufgeführt 1831 in Mailand) hatte es auf den Bühnen des 19. und der ersten Hälfte des 20. Jahrhunderts nicht leicht. Die heikle Koloraturen-Partie der Titelfigur schreckte selbst gute Sopranistinnen und deshalb auch viele Intendanten davon ab, sie zur Aufführung zu bringen. Doch dann kam Maria Callas! Die in Amerika aufgewachsene Griechin sang die gefürchtete Rolle in Rom, Mailand und New York so bravourös, dass die Fachwelt aus dem Häuschen geriet. Heute ist ›Norma‹ die mit Abstand bekannteste Oper Bellinis, setzt aber eine herausragende Koloratursopranistin voraus. In der Aufnahme aus dem Gran Teatre del Liceu in Barcelona übernimmt die US-amerikanische Opernsängerin Sondra Radvanovsky die Titelrolle.
