Die Geschichte handelt von der Opernsängerin Floria Tosca, die versucht, ihren Geliebten, den Maler Mario Cavaradossi, vor dem brutalen Polizeichef Scarpia zu retten. Das durchkomponierte und meisterhaft instrumentierte Werk enthält einige von Puccinis bekanntesten lyrischen Arien und ist nach wie vor eine seiner meistgespielten Opern. In dieser Produktion von 2022 wird eine hervorragende Besetzung von dem gefeierten australischen Regisseur Barrie Kosky inszeniert – »das Amsterdamer Publikum wurde von Koskys atemberaubender Inszenierung völlig aus den Socken gehauen« (Opera News).
