Der Schweizer Cellist Thomas Demenga befasst sich erneut mit Bach-Suiten. »Für mich ist Johann Sebastian Bach das größte musikalische Genie aller Zeiten. Seine Musik ist losgelöst von persönlichen Gefühlen und Dramen oder anderen Ereignissen, die viele Komponisten in ihrer Musik zum Ausdruck bringen. Deswegen ist seine Musik so rein und hat, wenn wir den Ausdruck gebrauchen wollen, etwas Göttliches. Sie ist über alles erhaben, und wir Musiker können ein Leben lang immer neue Wege finden, sie zu interpretieren.« Demenga hat die Cello-Suiten erstmals zwischen 1986 und 2002 für ECM aufgenommen, dabei wurden sie auf Alben, die heute zu den Meilensteinen in der Geschichte von ECM New Series zählen, zeitgenössischen Kompositionen gegenübergestellt. Das neue Doppelalbum jedoch ist ausschließlich Bach und den sechs Suiten gewidmet.
