Die ›Welcome Songs for King James II‹ gehören zu den weniger bekannten Werken in Purcells Oeuvre. Auch wenn es sich um Gelegenheitswerke handelt, schuf der Komponist anspruchsvolle Musik von erstaunlicher Originalität. Harry Christophers und The Sixteen stellen hier zwei Welcome Songs für James II. vor, die in den späten 1680er Jahren entstanden sind. Ergänzt werden sie durch kleinere Vokal- und Instrumentalwerke.
