Donizettis "Don Pasquale" ist Teil eines Trios italienischer Opernkomödien aus dem 19. Jahrhundert - neben "L'elisir d'amore" und Gioachino Rossinis "Il barbiere di Siviglia" -, die bis heute die Bühnen der Welt verzaubern. "Don Pasquale" stellt den Höhepunkt der Tradition der Opera Buffa dar und bedient sich Figuren aus der Commedia dell'arte - da ist der prahlerische alte Mann, sein liebeskranker Neffe, die listige Witwe und der intrigante Arzt. Sie hauchen dem Genre neues Leben ein, in dieser wunderschön konstruierten komischen Oper voller Cabaletten, Kadenzen und Koloraturen, die von einer sanften Melancholie durchzogen sind. Diese Produktion basiert auf einer neuen kritischen Ausgabe des Werks. Die Titelrolle singt und spielt der erfahrene Bariton Roberto de Candia. Giulia Mazzola als Norina wurde für ihren klaren lyrischen Sopran gelobt. Die Oper wurde vom berühmten mexikanischen Dirigenten Iván López-Reynoso geleitet, der im Laufe seiner Karriere bereits mehr als 50 Opern dirigiert hat. Die Aufnahmen fanden während des Donizetti-Opernfestivals 2024 in Bergamo statt.
