Die Premiere von Adolphe Adams »Giselle« am 28. Juni 1841 in Paris war ein absoluter Triumph und es gilt seither als Meisterwerk im Kanon der klassischen Ballettaufführungen. Das Thema von Giselle, die unmögliche Liebe, ist für alle Zeiten und Kulturen relevant. Giselle glaubt, in Albrecht ihre wahre Liebe gefunden zu haben, aber er ist nicht der Mensch, für den sie ihn gehalten hat – tatsächlich ist er mit einer anderen verlobt. Albrechts Liebe zu Giselle hat fatale Folgen, aber selbst im Tod ist Giselle noch zu Liebe und Vergebung fähig. Diese Produktion des Dutch National Ballet von Rachel Beaujean und Ricardo Bustamante haucht Giselle neues Leben ein, bleibt aber dem Original treu und kombiniert atemberaubende Bühnenbilder und Kostüme mit ätherischer Schönheit. Der Dirigent Ermanno Florio leitet das Dutch Ballet Orchestra.
