Stenger in FonoForum 8/01: »Knauer zelebriert diese Musik nicht; er wählt bei Bernstein beherzte Tempi, verdichtet Coplands weit ausschwingende Sonate und führt ihr grandioses Andante in eine Sphäre tönender Philosophie. Sehr prägnant und beredt zeichnet er Bernsteins Grußadressen nach und wagt bei Barber einen wehmütigen Rückblick. Der Ernst der Darstellung tut sehr gut.«
