Der weltbekannte Cellist Julius Berger spielt auf seinem Amati Violoncello »Charles IX« von 1566, einem der ältesten Celli der Welt.
Bereits wenige Monate nach seinem Geburtstag in Cremona wurde dieses Cello in das königliche Hoforchester Karls des IX. in Frankreich integriert. Viele Jahre später trifft das Instrument zum ersten Mal Julius Berger. Das Cello jedoch gibt Berger erst 20 Jahre nach der ersten Begegnung im Jahre 2004 eine zweite Chance. Von da an erklärt der Cellist und Pädagoge seine Lebenssuche nach dem »richtigen« Cello für beendet, da es ihm schließlich gelungen ist, ein Instrument zu f inden, dessen Klang das Herz des Zuhörenden unmittelbar erreicht und mit dem die Musik von Gabrielli und Antonii endlich nach fast 350 Jahren den ihr zustehenden Wert erfährt und den Reichtum offenbart, den sie uns schenkt.
