Der Venezianer Baldassare Galuppi ist besonders als Wegbereiter der opera buffa im norditalienischen Raum bekannt geworden. Als Tasteninstrumentalist war Galuppi bei seinen Zeitgenossen ebenfalls äußerst beliebt, seine überraschend zahlreichen Sonaten blieben hingegen größtenteils unveröffentlicht, kursierten als handschriftliche Kopien durch Europa, sind heute jedoch fast unbekannt. Diese reizvollen und charmanten, normalerweise zwei oder drei Sätze umfassenden Sonaten bewegen sich stilistisch mit ihrem Nebeneinander von Eleganz und Bravura, von Melancholie und Überschwang zwischen Domenico Scarlatti und dem jungen Mozart. Matteo Napoliist ein international vielbeschäftigter Pianist. Für Naxos hat er bereits einige weitere, von der Kritik hoch gelobte Aufnahmen eingespielt.
