Antoine de Lhoyer war einer der bedeutendsten Komponisten des neunzehnten Jahrhunderts für die Gitarre, aber auch Lehrer, Berufsmusiker und Soldat. Die melodische und rhythmische Prägnanz des thematischen Materials, das oft mit Verweisen auf die Musik Mozarts gespickt ist, der dramatische und fast theatralische Dialog zwischen den beiden Instrumenten und die häufigen Wechsel von einer einfachen begleiteten Melodie zu einer komplexen kontrapunktischen Textur sorgen für eine Musik von außerordentlicher Vielfalt, die im Gitarrenrepertoire des frühen neunzehnten Jahrhunderts nur selten ihresgleichen findet.
