Klappentext
Amelia Daffodil is on a flight to Idaho, pretty much against her will, to visit an aunt she never heard of until a week ago She's thinking it's just not fair, all her summer plans up in smoke, missing her best friend Melissa already ... until the plane starts to crash. Unfair on a whole different level. And then a voice from out of nowhere whispers in her ear, why not just wish yourself off this plane, which Amelia thinks is the stupidest thing she's ever heard, but then it's not as if there's much else to do when you're only minutes away from near-certain death. She makes the wish. Miraculously, it works. She finds herself on the edge of a lake, watching the plane she was just on fall from the sky. Which is more or less when her world begins to seriously unravel. Turns out a wish granted comes with some very bizarre consequences. A large, impenetrable forest suddenly appearing in the middle of Nebraska, for example. Or the young nurse at the hospital she's taken to attempting to seduce her, while announcing her fervent belief that Amelia is in fact Amelia Earhart, finally returned to claim her rightful place as American heroine and feminist icon. When her religiously fundamentalist mother shows up at the hospital in a way-too-short miniskirt, wearing excessive make up, smoking cigarettes and blatantly flirting with strange men, Amelia has to at least consider the possibility that all the ongoing weirdness has been caused by her wish. Just in case, she makes a promise to herself that there will be no more wishes.
If only keeping a promise were as easy as making it. But it's a long way home for Amelia, and the craziness is just getting started. Sometimes your only way out of an impossible situation is to wish it away ... and then hope that you haven't set in motion the end of the world.
The Girl Who Made A Wish, is a wildly speculative comedy; combining elements of magical realism, surreal plot twists, a collection of extremely quirky characters, and even featuring a special guest appearance by the spirit of none other than Amelia Earhart herself.
