The Sonic Real, Flexibler Einband

Klappentext

What is the Real in sound-and can it be heard at all? *The Sonic Real* brings philosophy, music theory, and artistic practice into dialogue. This English-language volume explores experimental music and sound art that challenge familiar ideas of composition, perception, and musical material: What roles do space and technology play? What happens at the limits of audibility? And can sound be conceived independently of human perception?

Through conversations and essays, Christoph Cox, Markus Rautzenberg, Rahma Khazam, Luc Döbereiner, Charles Curtis, Bernhard Rietbrock, and Sabine Sanio examine different philosophical concepts of the Real and their significance for sonic art. Examples including works by Alvin Lucier, Éliane Radigue, and Florian Hecker show how these theoretical questions unfold in musical practice.

Edited by Sabine Sanio, *The Sonic Real* offers a wide-ranging and insightful approach to the aesthetic questions raised by contemporary sonic art.
