Biography (Jean Giono)
Jean Giono (1895-1970) zählt zu den bedeutendsten Schriftstellern Frankreichs. Der überzeugte Pazifist übte harsche Kritik an der Zivilisation des 20. Jahrhunderts. Giono lebte völlig zurückgezogen in der Provence, er veröffentlichte zahlreiche Romane, Gedichte und Theaterstücke. Das Werk des 'Homers der Provence' ist gekennzeichnet von einer urwüchsigen Bejahung des Lebens und seiner pazifistischen Grundhaltung. In den dreißiger Jahren übertrug er Melvilles 'Moby Dick' ins Französische und verfasste anschließend 'Melville zum Gruß'.Biography (David Abram)
