Biografie (Arno Schmidt (geb. 1934))
Geboren 1934 in Hameln/ Weser, verbrachte der Enkel des letzten Weimarer Hofbäckers seine Kinder- und Jugendjahre in der Klassikerstadt direkt gegenüber dem Goethehause. Dort erlebte er den Zweiten Weltkrieg, verfolgte als Augenzeuge die Bombardierung Weimars und sah das Konzentrationslager Buchenwald unmittelbar nach der Befreiung. Diese dramatischen Eindrücke verarbeitete er in vielen seiner Gedichte. Nach dem Studium der lateinischen und griechischen Philologie in Halle unterrichtete Arno Schmidt lange Jahre in Ostfriesland und wurde nach seiner Tätigkeit als Oberstudiendirektor und Ministerialrat im Niedersächsischen Kultusministerium schließlich als Universitätsprofessor an die Carl-von Ossietzky-Universität in Oldenburg berufen. Zudem lehrte er als Honorarprofessor an der Martin-Luther-Universität Halle/Wittenberg. Im Ruhestand lebt er seit 1997 in Korbach, hielt aber noch bis 2014 Vorlesungen und Seminare an der Philipps-Universität zu Marburg.
