Banana Yoshimoto, 1964 geboren, Tochter des bekannten Essayisten und Literaturkritikers Ryumei Yoshimoto, schreibt, seit sie sieben ist. Yoshimoto, die von Japans Jugend als Kultautorin verehrt wird, lebt in Tokio. 'Kitchen' und der Roman 'Tsugumi' wurden verfilmt. Sie erhielt den Kaien- und den Izumi-Kyoka- Literaturpreis.
