Bartóks »Der wundersame Mandarin« (Pantomime in einem Akt) sorgte bei seiner Uraufführung im Jahr 1926 für Aufruhr, und das Werk wurde zu Bartóks Lebzeiten nie aufgeführt. Heute gilt es als Meisterwerk voller rhythmischer Feinheiten und spannender Orchestereffekte.
