Warhorse galoppierten mit ihren Schwermetal-Hufen mit einem Donnern in die Siebziger und wurden hierbei zu einem stabilen Ross.

Gegründet wurde die Bond vom Deep Purple Gitarristen Nick Simper und ihr Debut-Album wurde erstmalig 1970 auf dem Vertigo-Label veröffentlicht. Worhorse begannen einst als Background Band von Sängerin Marsha Hunt und als dies vorbei war, reorganisierte Simper die Band mit Ashley Holt {Gesang), Ged Peck (Gitarre) und Mac Poole am Schlagzeug. Anfangs war Rick Wakeman Bestandteil der Band, der jedoch dann später von Frank Wilson an den Keyboards ersetzt wurde, gerade rechtzeitig kurz vor Unterzeichnung ihres ersten Plattenvertrages.

Das Debut-Album mit seinen 12 Songs war lange verschollen und beinhaltet Songs wie 'Vulture Blood' und 'Woman Of The Devil', sowie eine Cover-Version des Easybeats - Klassikers "St. Louis", der auch als Single veröffentlicht wurde. Das Album wurde damals unterschätzt, Warhorse haben jedoch sehr viel Potential, wovon sich jeder Rock-Fan mit dieser Veröffentlichung nun selbst überzeugen kann.

Galloping into action with a thunder of heavy metal hooves, Warhorse was a sturdy steed of the Seventies. The band was formed by former Deep Purple bass guitarist Nick Simper and their debut album was first released on the Vertigo label in 1970.

Warhorse began life as a backing band for singer Marsha Hunt, but when Marsha came off the road, Simper reorganised the band with Ashley Holt (vocals), Ged Peck (guitar), and Mac Poole on drums. Rick Wakeman was in the band for a while, but was later replaced by Frank Wilson on keyboards, in time for their first record sessions.

A long lost classic, this 12 track CD includes such titles as ‘Vulture Blood’ and ‘Woman Of The Devil’, along with the band’s version of the Easybeats’ song ‘St. Louis’, that was also issued as a single. A highly underrated outfit, Warhorse had a lot of potential, as can be appreciated from this fascinating glimpse into the archives.
