Das SAR Label wurde 1959 in Los Angeles von Sam Cooke und JW Alexander gegründet, just zu dem Zeitpunkt, als sich Cooke entschloss, die Singerei mit dem komponieren von Liedern für andere Künstler zu kombinieren.

Unglücklicherweise ging das Label nach dem Tod Cookes schnell den Bach hinunter, aber bis dahin gab es schon einige vielversprechende Veröffentlichungen. Dabei handelt es sich um Aufnahmen von unter anderem den Sims Twins, L. C. Cooke, Johnny Morisette und Jacki Ross.
