Auf »Prism« wächst die pulsierende Diskografie von The Orb mit ihrem 18. Album, dem dritten unter der Leitung des Kernduos Alex Paterson und Michael Rendall, immer weiter an.
Trotz der Assoziationen, die der Titel des Albums hervorruft, bewegen sich The Orb hier weiterhin ohne Hemmungen in den Bereichen Ambient, House und Dub, aber auch in Richtung Poesie, Pop, Drum'n'Bass und Reggae. Auf der LP sind die Elektronikmusiker David Harrow (zu dessen Lebenslauf Anne Clarke, Psychic TV, Razormaid, Adrian Sherwood und Andy Weatherall gehören) und Gaudi (zu dessen Referenzen Max Romeo, Capleton, Johnny Clarke und Desmond Dekker gehören) zu hören. Weitere Gäste sind Orb-Stammgast Youth, die Geigerin Violeta Vicci, der Kompakt-Records-Absolvent Leonardo Fresco, Metamono-Mann Jono Podmore, Gitarrist und Alex' alter Schulfreund David Lofts sowie die Sänger Eric Von Skywalker, Andy Cain und Rachel D'Arcy.
