Die Themen ziehen sich wie ein roter Faden durch das Album, persönlich und gewichtig, aber auch mit einer Prise Fantasy roman-Referenzen. (Können Sie die Anspielung auf Terry Pratchett erkennen? Tipp: Es sind nicht durchgehend Schildkröten) The Hackles wurden 2017 gegründet und bestehen aus Kati Claborn (Gesang/Gitarre/Banjo/Klarinette) und Luke Ydstie (Gesang/Gitarre/Bass/Keyboards) von Blind Pilot und Halli Anderson (Gesang/Violine) von River Whyless und Horse Federn. Claborn und Ydstie spielen auch regelmäßig mit Horse Feathers sowie mit der Folk-Legende Michael Hurley und dem »kosmischen Country-Rasenzwerg« Bart Budwig.
