Die Leadsingle »Where I'll Stand« beginnt mit klassischen elektronischen Krautrock-Synthies, die sich zu einem klassischen The Dream Syndicate-Vibe verbinden - nicht unähnlich dem Song »Tell Me When It's Over«, der den Auftakt zu »The Days Of Wine And Roses« - ihrem Debüt-Full Length-Album aus dem Jahr 1982 - bildete - mit einem Hauch von Bowies Eröffnungssong auf »Scary Monsters« »It's No Game«.
Als The Dream Syndicate in den frühen 80er Jahren aufkamen, erklärte Frontmann Steve Wynn »we're playing music we want to hear because nobody else is doing it« - und fügte hinzu: »I'll compromise on what I eat or where I sleep, but I won't compromise on what music I play.«
Beides ist wahr. Die Band war und ist auf ihre Art immer noch kompromisslos. The Dream Syndicate - bestehend aus Sänger/Songwriter/Gitarrist Steve Wynn, Schlagzeuger Dennis Duck, Bassist Mark Walton, Leadgitarrist Jason Victor und dem jüngsten Mitglied Chris Cacavas an den Keyboards (Green On Red, Calexico, Giant Sand, Jason Molina) - nahmen »Ultraviolet Battle Hymns And True Confessions« mit Hilfe von Gastauftritten von Stephen McCarthy (von The Long Ryders) und Marcus Tenneys ausdrucksstarker Saxophon- und Trompetenarbeit auf.
