»Ganz zu Beginn ihrer Karriere besaßen Spirit alles - die große Stilvielfalt, das Können, den Geist der späten 1960er Jahre. Nur der Erfolg blieb aus, stellte sich erst Jahre nach Trennung der Ursprungsformation ein. Nachdem Jay Ferguson und Mark Andes die Band 1971 verlassen hatten wurden Spirit von Sänger und Gitarrist Randy California und seinem Stiefvater, dem Schlagzeuger Ed Cassidy, weitergeführt. SUNRISE & SALVATION: THE MERCURY ERA ANTHOLOGY bringt die vier Studio-Alben, die Spirit zwischen 1976 und 1984 bei Mercury veröffentlichten.
