Guitar legend Reggie Young is now approaching the age of 80 but has just recorded his first solo album. He had previously made one inspirational album with his wife, but this new CD contains the type of music for which he is best-known: tasteful, laidback guitar-playing, recorded in Alabama with a band that includes Clayton Ivey, David Hood and Jim Horn.
You may not recognise the name, but you’ll certainly have heard him play on songs such as James Carr’s ‘The Dark End Of The Street’, the Box Tops’ ‘Cry Like A Baby’ and ‘The Letter’, Dusty Springfield’s ‘Son Of A Preacher Man’, Elvis Presley’s ‘In The Ghetto’, ‘Suspicious Minds’ and ‘Kentucky Rain’, Dobie Gray’s ‘Drift Away’, Billy Swan’s ‘I Can Help’, J. J. Cale’s ‘Cocaine’, Willie Nelson’s ‘Always On My Mind’, Merle Haggard’s ‘That’s The Way Love Goes’ and Willie & Merle’s ‘Poncho And Lefty’.
