The latest outing from Juliana Hatfield picks up the tempo and turns up the volume but retains Juliana's steely commitment to stark instrumentation and impenitent lyrics. Made In China, her first CD on her own label, Ye Olde Records, is an artist's dream; Juliana notes, "Now that I have my own label, I can do whatever I want. This album sounds like me to me. I wantedto make an album quick and raw, without too much agonizing or conscious thought. " And she has. The album was recorded at theWindham in Bellows Falls, VT, which is the new home of longtime Hatfield affiliates, Fort Apache Studios. A couple songs were recorded at Camp Street Studios. Made In China was mixed by Brian Brown and Paul Kolderie and mastered by Greg Calbi at Sterling Sound. Hatfield is joined on Made In China by Joe Keefe (guitars), Ben Smith (bass) and Sebastian Keefe (drums.)John Doe, formerly of X, writes of the new album, "A frighteningly dark and beautiful record filled with stark, angular, truly brutal songs and guitars.
