Mit den beiden Alben »Signs & Signifiers« (2012) und »Let the Good Times Roll« (2015) die bei dem Label Rounder Records veröffentlicht wurden, hat sich JD McPherson bei den Rockabilly-Fans einen ausgezeichneten Ruf erspielt.
Mit »Undivided Heart & Soul« konnte sich der Künstler nun einen Herzenswunsch erfüllen: das Album wurde komplett im legendären RCA Studio B in Nashville eingespielt. Dieses ist für seinen Raumklang und das Equipment berühmt. Künstler wie Elvis Presley, Roy Orbinson und die Strokes haben sich hier klanglich verewigt.
Das neue Werk ist inhaltlich weiter gefasst: ein R&B-Vibe durchzieht einige der Songs, grundsätzlich fällt die Produktion kantiger aus, so dass McPhersons Leidenschaft für den frühen Rock’n’Roll der The Sonics oder eines Link Wray durchscheint.
