In ihrer gmeinsamen Formation Hawktail, haben Geigerin Brittany Haas, Bassist Paul Kowert, Gitarrist Jordan Tice und Dominick Leslie an der Mandoline ihre großen kompositorischen und instrumentalen Fähigkeiten für ein mit Spannung erwartetes zweites Album vereint. Ihre Musik baut sich aus dem Nichts auf und lässt in ihren Kompositionen einen Klang entstehen, der einzigartig ist. Orchestrale Passagen wechseln sich mit feinfühligen Melodien ab. Mit Einflüssen aus Amerikas Norden und des Nordatlantik, formt sich ein kosmopolitischer Sound, den man so von einem Streichorchester nicht erwartet.
Mit »Formations« wird deutlich, dass Hawktail durchaus in der Lage ist, ihren eigenen Weg zu gehen und die traditionellen Rollen ihrer jeweiligen Instrumente und Genres erfolgreich in Frage zu stellen.
